Nuclear Power and Its Global Distribution

According to the International Atomic Energy Agency's Power Reactor Information System (PRIS), roughly 440 nuclear reactors were operating across more than 30 countries in the early 2020s, supplying close to 9 percent of global electricity and, notably, around a quarter of the world's low-carbon electricity generation. The United States operates the largest single fleet, with around 90 reactors, though nuclear's share of its overall generation mix is comparatively modest; France operates roughly 56 reactors that for decades supplied 70 percent or more of the country's electricity, the highest sustained national reliance on nuclear power anywhere in the world; and China, South Korea, and Russia round out the group of countries with the largest and, in China's case, most rapidly expanding fleets.
