The Great Conquests, the Nasrid Kingdom of Granada, and 1492

The thirteenth century brought the most rapid phase of Christian expansion: Fernando III, who united Castile and León permanently in 1230, conquered Córdoba in 1236 and Seville in 1248, while Jaime I of Aragon conquered Mallorca in 1229 and the kingdom of Valencia by 1238. This wave of conquest, achieved within barely three decades, was followed by a massive resettlement of the newly won territories through repartimientos, the division of land among nobles, military orders, the Church, and new settlers, and it left only the kingdom of Granada as an independent Muslim territory in the peninsula.
