Climate activism has produced some of the most visible youth-led global political movements of recent years. Swedish activist Greta Thunberg's solitary "school strike for climate" outside the Swedish parliament in August 2018 grew into the international Fridays for Future movement, which organized coordinated protests across more than one hundred countries and helped push climate change higher on the agenda of national elections and the annual UN Climate Change Conferences (COP), even though translating street mobilization into binding policy change has proven far harder than generating public attention.
