After the First Intermediate Period, the reunifier Mentuhotep II, of the Eleventh Dynasty, restored central authority from Thebes around 2055 BCE, ushering in the Middle Kingdom (c. 2055-1650 BCE). This era is regarded as a classical period of Egyptian literature and art.
