Early Christianity in the Roman Empire
Christianity emerged in the first century CE in the Roman province of Judea, within the context of the Judaism of the period, and spread progressively across the eastern Mediterranean, thanks in large part to the missionary work of figures such as the apostle Paul of Tarsus, who spread the Christian message among non-Jewish (gentile) communities in Asia Minor, Greece, and Italy.
