Web Application Security Testing
Web applications are among the most frequently tested targets in the security industry because they are internet-facing, handle sensitive data, and are built from complex layers of code that are easy to misconfigure. The Open Web Application Security Project (OWASP), a nonprofit community of security practitioners, maintains the OWASP Top 10, a periodically updated list of the most critical and prevalent categories of web application risk, compiled from data contributed by security vendors and testing firms worldwide. The list is not a checklist to memorize so much as a shared vocabulary: categories like "broken access control," "cryptographic failures," "injection," and "security misconfiguration" give testers, developers, and auditors a common framework for describing and prioritizing risk across very different applications.
